Recognition needs more than a name on a list. It needs a clear field, clear criteria and a process fans can understand. Here is how the award cycle moves from eligible performances to the public verdict.

The fan ballot
Supporters select within the published categories. There is no essay, public nomination campaign or purchase needed to make a selection.
Verification & reporting
The count reviewer reconciles valid choices and exceptions. The accountable operator signs off the process and publishes the result; commercial staff do not substitute a preferred recipient.
From evidence to recognition
Shortlist review and public voting serve different purposes. Review establishes who is eligible; the ballot records who the fans choose.
Each category has a stated purpose, assessment period and eligibility criteria. The inaugural 2027 edition assesses June 1, 2026–March 31, 2027, with separate men’s and women’s tracks. It does not assess the complete 2026–27 season.
AI-assisted research organizes match records, competition information and reliable reporting. Human reviewers verify sources, position and competition context; the tools do not appoint award recipients.
Human review checks eligibility, category fit and supporting evidence. The candidate field is finalized and frozen on November 30, 2026. No new candidates are added afterward. The published field includes each candidate’s case and the category criteria.
Fans choose from the frozen field from December 1, 2026–April 30, 2027. Performance assessment continues through March 31; April is for considering the completed period. Confirmed selections carry equal weight within each category.
May 2027 is for verification, tie resolution and procedural challenges. Valid, latest-confirmed selections are reconciled by category and track before totals are finalized.
May 15, 2027 is the target for final results and recipient notification. Unresolved material issues delay sign-off when necessary. Recipient coordination and event preparation run from May–July, ahead of Las Vegas in July 2027. The published result report explains category totals and material exclusions or adjustments without exposing personal voter data.
Eligibility / Inaugural 2027 edition
The inaugural edition considers performances from June 1, 2026–March 31, 2027. April performances and the season’s final run-in are excluded. The candidate field freezes on November 30, 2026, with no additions afterward. Senior club and international football are included; men’s and women’s tracks are considered separately. Career history supplies editorial context, rather than extra votes or credit outside the cycle.
For leagues using different calendars, only matches within the common window count. Transfers and international appearances follow the same boundary. Candidates can be excluded for being outside the period, outside the category’s scope, duplicated or unsupported by sufficient reliable evidence.
Voters can consider the completed assessment period throughout April, until voting closes April 30, 2027. The edition does not assess the complete 2026–27 season.
Performance in context
A goals total cannot explain every position. The evidence needs to reflect the job a player, coach or team actually performs.
Saves and decisions, distribution, control of the area and match context.
Prevention, positioning, progression and defensive organization.
Control, creation, progression and work without the ball.
Scoring, creation, movement and pressure on the defense.
Collective achievement, decisions, adaptability and consistency.
These examples guide assessment; they are not weighted algorithm inputs.
Men’s and women’s football are assessed within their own competitions. Editorial coverage of earlier generations provides perspective; it does not extend the annual award’s assessment period.
The public vote
The ordinary-category counting and tie rules are set out below. Exact deadline times, time zone, remaining participation procedures and the People’s XI positional tie procedure will be published before voting opens. The core counting approach is straightforward.
One confirmed selection per email, per category, per track enters the final count. The candidate with the highest valid total receives the category award.
Using the same email across categories does not combine those categories. Each has its own count. Any permitted change replaces the earlier selection instead of adding an extra vote.
Select a team in a 4–3–3 formation. Each valid inclusion counts within its assigned position; the leading candidates fill that position’s allocation.
Count each category and track using its valid, latest-confirmed selections. Skipping a category in a replacement submission preserves its earlier confirmed choice. Categories with no confirmed choice, unconfirmed submissions and superseded records add nothing to the count.
The denominator for a category percentage is the number of valid, latest-confirmed selections in that category and track.
There is no additional sponsor, organizer or automated scoring weight added to the public tally.

Of 110 submitted records, six remain unconfirmed and four were superseded by confirmed replacements. The final denominator is 100 valid selections. Candidate A leads with 43; no majority threshold is required.
The candidate with the highest valid vote total wins. Exact ties at the highest total produce joint winners.
The positional tie procedure remains to be approved. It will be published before voting opens; the ordinary-category joint-winner rule does not settle positional allocations in the XI.
Each XI candidate is assigned one position before voting. The leading valid inclusion totals fill one goalkeeper, four defender, three midfield and three forward places within each track.
Accountability
Unconfirmed submissions, superseded records and categories without a confirmed choice add nothing to the count. Verification reviews validity under the published rules, with exclusions explained in aggregate. Email confirmation verifies access to an address, not a person’s identity.
SGN Soccer is responsible for the award process and publication. Research tools support evidence gathering. People make eligibility decisions and resolve procedural questions.
Sponsorship, commercial relationships and attendance at the presentation do not determine a shortlist place or an award. A recipient’s inability to attend does not change the result.
The result report gives valid category totals and percentages, participation counts and aggregate exclusions by reason. It identifies the rules version used and any material adjustments without exposing voter information. Factual or procedural concerns can be sent to hello@worldfootballaward.com. Material corrections are identified publicly.
Verification, tie resolution and procedural challenges take place in May 2027. May 15 is the target for final results and recipient notification, not a reason to ignore unresolved material issues. The detailed challenge procedure will be published before voting opens.
Material corrections receive a dated explanation with the prior result retained. The final rules receive a version and effective date before voting opens, and changes cannot silently rewrite a completed vote.
